Land acquisition for Bolinao airport now at 70%
THE provincial government’s Bolinao airport project is proceeding with almost 70 percent of the land acquisition for the project site completed.
This was confirmed by Gov. Ramon Guico III in an interview last week, adding that the initial phase of the project, which costs about P700 million, is partly funded by the Omnibus Loan Agreement of the provincial government with the Land Bank of the Philippines, and partly by the provincial government’s own funds.
However, the governor did not disclose the location of the project site to avoid difficulties in securing the right of way.
The P700 million will cover the construction of the fence, the site development, and the 1,500-meter runway that can accommodate propeller-type commercial aircrafts like Airbus 320.
He said the second phase will start the extension of the runway to 2.5 kilometers, and add a taxiway for smaller airplanes, a ramp, an apron, a terminal, and road development, and might need another P100 million.
The governor cited studies that the Bolinao attracts a high number of foreign tourists while Hundred Islands in Alaminos City caters mostly to local tourists.
He also said that the Bolinao airport will not affect the Alaminos airport because these are within the minimum 24-kilometer radius for both airports but it will be the Alaminos and Lingayen airports that will be in conflict, because of their overlapping air space.
The governor is hoping that the project will be finished by 2025. “That’s easy to do. We have an experience in building an airport,” he said. (Eva Visperas)
