By November 12, 2023Inside News

ON November 5, Anda local government observed World Tsunami Awareness Day with lectures based on series titled “Fighting Inequality for a Resilient Future.”

An info series focusing on tsunamis, emphasizing the signs, causes, and recommended actions in the event of tsunami alerts were made public last November 5 in consonance the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization’s (UNESCO) declaration of November 5 as World Tsunami Awareness Day in 2015.

Robelyn Mangahas, Science Research Specialist I of the Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (DOST-PHIVOLCS) in Region I, emphasized the importance of public education on tsunami dangers, noting that “while tsunamis are rare, their impact can be substantial”.

Given Anda’s location as an island municipality in the western region of Pangasinan, it is particularly vulnerable to the effects of a potential tsunami, making public education and awareness crucial. (Kim Gealogo)
