Three BSKE bet in hot waters for premature campaigning
THREE candidates participating in the upcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) in Asingan find themselves in a precarious situation due to suspected premature campaigning.
The Asingan Public Information Office disclosed that these candidates, among the 522 aspirants who attended a candidate briefing and integrity signing event, reportedly violated regulations by sharing campaign-related content on social media platforms.
Consequently, the COMELEC Law Department swiftly issued show cause orders to these candidates, granting them a three-day window to elucidate their purported violations.
Depending on their responses, they could potentially be subjected to election offense charges and disqualification, with penalties including imprisonment for one to six years and permanent disqualification from holding elected positions.
The COMELEC encourages the public to be vigilant in reporting any election-related infractions.
In Asingan alone, 917 individuals are aspiring for roles in the BSKE, with over 300 contending for Sangguniang Kabataan positions. (Ahikam Pasion)
