Finally, farmers enjoying high palay farmgate buying price
COINCIDING with the end of La Niña this month, is the harvest season for rice farmers.
Berto Diaz, a farmer in Calasiao, said it is the ideal time for harvest because drying palay is easier with the hot weather sweeping across the country and the season has resulted in higher farm gate prices.
The Samahang Industriya ng Agrikultura (SINAG) said price per kilogram of palay has increased by P1.50, while milled rice increased by P3.00.
Diaz said he already sold his palay for P22 to private palay traders instead of selling to the
National Food Authority (NFA) Eastern Pangasinan that offers to buy at P19 per kilogram for its buffer stocks.
Diaz said he, along with other farmers, are not yet willing to sell palay to the NFA while the buying price remains high.
“Bawi muna kami, siguro kapag bumaba na, baka ibenta na rin naming sa kanila ” he said. (Ahikam Pasion)
