51 injured from firecracker explosion in Pangasinan
FIFTY-one victims of firecracker explosion were recorded in the province by the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPPO).
The number more than tripled the 16 number of firecracker injuries registered in Pangasinan.
P/Major Ria Tacderan, PPPO information officer, however, pointed out that the firecracker victims this year suffered only minor injuries and were sent home after their treatment in various hospitals.
Six of the victims were injured by boga, an improvised pyrotechnic device made of tin cans and PVC pipe, eight by whistle bomb, seven by five-star triangle, 23 by kwitis or baby rocket, five by sparklers, one by bawang firecracker and another by fountain firework.
Two of those injured by boga were in Manaoag, and one each in Mangatarem, Lingayen, Alaminos and Burgos.
The three injured by whistle bomb were in Dagupan City and one each in Anda, San Carlos City, Sison and Rosales; four persons in Dagupan were injured by Five Star Triangle and one each in Mangaldan, Anda and San Jacinto.
Five persons were injured each in San Carlos City and Mangaldan for lighting baby rockets, two each in Sual, Dagupan City and Malasiqui and one each in Lingayen, Manaoag, Laoac, Sta. Maria, San Jacinto and Alaminos City.
Two persons were injured for lighting sparklers in Bayambang and one each in Manaoag and Sta. Barbara; one person was injured by bawang explosion in Calasiao, one due to fountain in Malasiqui.
Dagupan City registered the biggest number of injuries through firecracker explosion with nine victims.
Meanwhile, the Pangasinan police seized 1,945 pieces of assorted banned firecrackers valued at P8,943 on New Year’s eve. (Leonardo Micua)
