Bayambang’s Rusty Lopez passed on
ONE of the Philippines’ most notable fashion retailer of his brand, Rustico ‘Rusty’ Lopez, passed away last June 19. A native of Barangay Telbang in Bayambang town, he succumbed after a grief battle against cancer.
The Bayambang local government unit (LGU) honored his memory, being one of the 2021 Matalunggaring Awardees for “his remarkable accomplishments in the world of fashion retailing.”
Lopez rocked the fashion world during the early 80’s, where the New York fashion scene took notice of pretty frocks in white cotton eyelet and was featured in fashion magazines in the US.
In 1969, Lopez opened his shop in Ermita, Manila where he started his fashion retail career, and open of the pioneers of RTW industry in the country and subsequently branched out into shoes and bags.
The Bayambang LGU page cited his humble beginnings which was a story was one of struggle, resourcefulness, desire, and wit. (Ahikam Pasion)
