THE Department of Health (DOH) completed the inspection of voting centers throughout the country to ensure that there will be enough air flowing inside when people vote on Monday, May 9.

This was confirmed by Dr. Rheuel Bobis, COVID-19 focal person in Region 1, as one of the actions taken by the DOH, in coordination with the Commission on Elections, to prevent any COVID-19 transmission in every polling precinct.

Bobis told the “Tontongan ed PIA” that there will be isolation rooms reserved by the Comelec for those who have symptoms of COVID, where they can cast their votes.

He said the national Inter-agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases advised voters to check their body temperature to find out if they have fever and if they feel they have symptoms related to COVID, not to leave their homes.

Meanwhile, voters will be required to wear face masks when they go to the polls to vote . It will be “no-mask-no entry” in voting precincts and urged voters to vote early as there is likely overcrowding in every polling place where observance of social distancing will be breached.

At the same time, Bobis warned that contagion will likely surge anew after the election, saying it is the pattern that follows every big holidays in the past like Christmas and Lent but confirmed that the new sub-variant detected in Baguio and the Cordilleras recently has not reached Region 1.
