TO help restore electricity in Cebu province, the Dagupan Electric Corporation (Decorp) dispatched six linemen and one safety officer to the province whose power facilities were destroyed by Super Typhoon Odette two weeks ago.

The crew was part of the Task Force Odette formed by electric companies in Luzon and parts of the Visayas and Mindanao not affected by the typhoon.

A roll off, roll on (Ro-Ro) vessel took them and their vehicle loaded with equipment and provisions to Cebu.

Randy Castilian, Decorp’s spokesperson, said Decorp decided to send its personnel to Cebu to help restore power in devastated areas to reciprocate Cebu’s similar gesture when Pangasinan suffered similar fate in the past.

This was not the first time that Decorp dispatched its workers to help fellow electric companies or cooperatives in restoring electricity in their areas that were devastated by calamities.

Also when Dagupan and Pangasinan were devastated by typhoon “Cosme” more than a decade ago, and a 7.6 earthquake on July 16, 1990, other electric companies from several provinces also sent their men here to help restore electricity.

Meanwhile, the Ilocos Sur Electric Cooperative in Vigan City also announced it has formed a team to be sent also to the Visayas by January or February to join other electric cooperatives on helping restore electricity there.

Regions 6, 8, 9, 10 and Caraga have also fielded teams to the Odette-stricken areas (Leonardo Micua)
