PHO: Intensified vaccination will lead to herd immunity
THE continued decline in numbers of new cases is a strong indication that the pandemic in Pangasinan will finally come to an end.
This was observation shared by Provincial Health Officer Anna De Guzman in an interview on December 20 when she highlighted an average of 4 daily confirmed cases from December 14 to 19.
De Guzman said the decrease of COVID-19 cases is the result of the rollout of intensified vaccination across the province and the heightened compliance of Pangasinenses with the health and safety protocols enforced in Pangasinan.
The Provincial Government sustains the unhampered vaccination roll-out in Pangasinan including setting up of vaccination centers and reaching far-flung barangays through the mobile vaccination teams.
As of December 19, the Provincial Health Office has inoculated 76.83% of the total eligible population or 1,689,265 for the total first dose and 1,122,330 or 51.05% of the eligible population in Pangasinan are now fully-vaccinated in the province.
De Guzman said the Provincial Government has partnered with the Department of Health and private sector to assure the continuous supply of vaccine and other logistical requirements for the intensified vaccination in Pangasinan, particularly inoculation of booster shots on frontline health workers early this month.
PHO, however, reminds Pangasinenses not to be complacent with the decrease of COVID-19 cases in the province, especially amid the threat of the new variant.
Meanwhile, even with the COVID-19 pandemic, the PHO assures to balance health care services to include non-COVID cases such as: dengue, rabies, gastro-enteritis, diabetes and hypertension.
The PHO will also continue the Abig Laman ed Barangay Kalusugan Karaban which is an integral part of the Abig Pangasinan that brings free medical services closer to Pangasinenses. (PIO)
