COVID-19 cases in Pangasinan surged during the period September 10 -16 with 3,909 new cases registered but this was not as big since it was effectively checked by the high number of recoveries with 3,460 but 45 other persons were reported to have died.

The biggest recoveries occurred on September 13 when 1,048 patients were discharged from their hospital confinement and isolation in LGU-managed facilities, which stood as the biggest number of recoveries ever scored on a single day since the contagion started last year.

With reports that eight new Delta variants and one Beta variant were detected in Dagupan, plus five other new Delta variants in Pangasinan, COVID-19 cases continue to surge in all towns and cities. However, because of the big number of recovered patients owing to the efficient health management protocols adopted by local health professionals, the number  of active cases was limited to 3,995, from 3,664 last September 9.

Mangaldan placed itself under the Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine from September 15 to 28 on account of its continuous soaring of COVID-19 cases, whose active cases as of September 15 went up to 201, only a case lower than Malasiqui’s 202, the highest among all 47 towns and cities of Pangasinan.

Mangaldan declared an MECQ on the day the MECQ of both Pozorrubio and Sison had expired. The MECQ of Manaoag expires today, September 19.

In Binmaley, the municipal hall was padlocked temporarily for disinfection last September 16 as five workers, including Mayor Simplicio Rosario, tested positive for COVID-19 with only the town’s Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office open to respond to the needs of local residents who will be at risk.

Last week, the municipal building of Calasiao was also temporarily closed also for disinfection.

Fourth District Board Member Jeremy Agerico Rosario, chairman on Health of the SP, said in a privilege speech on September 13: “We can’t go on pretending that things are okay, but we are seeing on the ground a different story”,  adding that many people are dying and many others are being declared positive for the virus.

He appealed to all Pangasinenses that in order to contain the infection, visits must be postponed for a while and visitors must not be allowed to enter ones’ homes.

Meanwhile, because of the rising COVID-19 cases, all hospitals in Pangasinan, including in Dagupan City, were already overwhelmed by the number of patients and are turning down more patients.

The Pangasinan Provincial Hospital already converted its gymnasium as additional wards for COVID-19 patients and built two tents in front of its emergency room for patients waiting for their turn to be admitted.

As of September 16, there were already 26,837 cases registered since the start of the contagion with 21,944 already recovered and 868 had died.

Other towns in Pangasinan registering triple digits in their COVID-19 cases are Calasiao (201), San Carlos City (196), Bugallon (166), Urdaneta City (143), Bani (134), Bayambang (127), Binmaley (120), Bolinao (120), Lingayen (115), Sta. Barbara (113) and Umingan (100). (Leonardo Micua)
