Suspect in Espino ambush arrested
ANOTHER suspect in the ambush of former Governor Amado Espino Jr. was arrested on September 9 in his residence in Barangay Camambigan, Urbiztondo.
Joint police elements nabbed Paraon Calugay Tamondong alias Pong Tamondong, 46 , construction worker, currently the top most wanted person in the provincial level.
Tamondong is accused for two counts of murder under criminal case numbers 11066 and 11067 without bail recommended, three counts of attempted murder under CC Nos. SCC-11063, SCC-11064 and SCC-11065 with fixed bail bond of P120,000.00 each and frustrated murder under CC No. SCC-11062 with fixed bail bond of P200,00.00 by virtue of warrants of arrest all dated February 15, 2021 issued by Judge Magnolia Cayetano of the Regional Trial Court Branch 56, San Carlos City, Pangasinan.
In an interview, P/Major Arturo Melchor Jr, Pangasinan Provincial Police spokesperson, said Tamondong hid after the ambush and only returned home recently.
Tamondong, who did not resist arrest, will undergo swab test first before he is committed to the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology on the court’s order.
It may be recalled that Espino, also a former congressman, travelling in a convoy was ambushed in Barangay Magtaking, San Carlos City on Sept. 11, 2019 that left him wounded and two of his aides, Agapito Cuison and P/Staff Sergeant Richard Esguerra, driver and bodyguard respectively, died.
Charged together with Tamondong over the ambush were former second district Board Member Raul Sison, Armando Frias, Sherwin Diaz, Richard Arambulo, Pong Tamondong, Cesar Agbayani, Arnulfo Alipio, Ernesto Frias Jr, Ronald Anthony Romero, Ernesto Agbayani, a certain Ruseller a.k.a ‘Sel’, Fidel ‘Kalbo’ and five John Does.
Sison, from Urbiztondo, died of COVID in March 2020.
It may be recalled that suspect Arambulo, 45, a resident of Barangay Pisuac, Urbiztondo, then listed as top four most wanted person in the provincial level, was arrested on March 2 this year in San Carlos City.
Other suspects already arrested included, Palisoc, Resultan, Frias, Romero and Regalado.
The same cases were also filed against 22 suspects, believed to be masterminds, financiers, conspirators and accessories, sometime in October 2019 by the Regional Police Office. (Eva Visperas)
