Lightning strikes two dead

TWO persons died after a lightning struck them in Barangay Angio, San Fabian town on Tuesday evening, June 8 in what was suspected to have been caused by an active smartphone in an open area in the middle of a thunderstorm.
San Fabian Police identified the victims as Fernando Guntang, 20, resident of Barangay Angio, and Jeric Soriano, 25, of Barangay Pangapisan North in Lingayen town.
According to witnesses Lloyd Alpa and Ludovico Paragas, they were together with the victims when they sought cover under a nipa hut they were fixing when it rained.
Soriano just finished playing a mobile game and put his cellphone in his pocket, when lightning struck him and Guntang, who was seated right beside him.
The duo were immediately rushed to Region 1 Medical Center in Dagupan City but were declared dead on arrival. Alpa and Paragas were unscathed.
Authorities continue to warn individuals not to use any gadget or electronic device during a thunderstorm. (Ahikam Pasion)
