SURGE EXPECTED AFTER HOLY WEEK

WITH indicators of a rising trend in active COVID cases again, the numbers are expected to spike anew in Dagupan City after it announced that it will keep the Tondalligan Beach open to residents and visitors for the duration of the Holy Week and new baratillo stalls were given permits to operate in the already crowded streets near the city hall compound.

Last week, 47 active cases already tallied as of March 24, up from 36 last March 19, bringing total confirmed cases so far since the start of the pandemic to 1,195 with 1,087 patients listed as having recovered while 62 persons have died.

Among Dagupan’s 31 barangays, Caranglaan is still on top with 14 cases, followed by Malued (7), Bonuan Boquig (5), Pantal (5), Bonuan Gueset (3), Mangin (3), Bonuan Binloc (2), Tapuac (2), Lucao (2), Bacayao Sur (1), Carael (1) and Poblacion (Oeste 1).

The city government did not report if it effected granular dock down on any street in some barangays where the COVID-19 positive patients are detected.

So far, no case has been reported in 17 barangays: Bacayao Norte, Barangays 1, Carael, Herero Perez, Lasip Chico, Lasip Grande, Lomboy, Mamalingling, Mayombo, Pogo Grande, Pugaro, Salapingao, Salisay, Tambac and Tebeng.

Meanwhile, since the Tondaligan Beach will be the only beach opened in Pangasinan during the Holy Week, more visitors and residents will likely spend leisure time there risking violations of  the health and physical distancing protocols.

In his post on Facebook, Mayor Brian Lim said that they will let the Tondaligan Beach open during the Holy Week to enable shed owners and vendors to operate their businesses but it pointed out that no swimming activity will be allowed.

The city hall said that allowing more baratillo stalls in the city’s central business district is allowed under the Modified General Community Quarantine classification. (Leonardo Micua)
