Botika sa Barangay up soon in Dagupan City
The city council has passed a resolution seeking to establish Botika sa Barangay in all the 31 barangays of the city.
The first ever resolution that passed the legislative mill in the new city council was sponsored by Councilor Jesus Canto and supported by all councilors present, including Councilor Farah Decano who introduced an amendment.
Canto, formerly the director of Region I Medical Center, said the Department of Health is providing P25,000 counterpart per Botika sa Barangay in the city.
He has asked City Mayor Alipio Fernandez to allocate a similar amount for the benefit of residents in far-flung communities who cannot immediately go to the city proper to buy their medicines.
Canto, chairman on health of the city council, said the Botika sa Barangay is particularly necessary in areas where there are no drug stores where residents can source their medicines.
Since the proceeds of the Botika sa Barangay, he said, must be shared by the caretaker and the barangay itself, the botika must be hosted by the barangay captain or in any available place designated by the barangay.
