Salapingao National High School, first to get free Wi-Fi internet connection access

THE Salapingao National High School (SNHS) has free wi-fi internet access provided by the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) in partnership with the city government of Dagupan.
Mayor Belen T. Fernandez led the launching of the People Konek free Wi-Fi internet access in public places project and the Tech4ED program of the DICT on Monday at the SNHS. She was accompanied by DICT Region 1 Director Cheryl Ortega, Barangay Salapingao Punong Barangay Delfin De Guzman and school Principal Sheryll Villacorta.
Fernandez signed the memorandum of agreement for the project along with Ortega, De Guzman and Villacorta.
Ortega disclosed that with the installation of the free wi-fi internet access, will not only benefit the school and students but will also empower other members of the community through the Tech4ED program, which is a technology empowerment for education, employment, entrepreneurs and economic development.
Fernandez thanked the DICT for bringing the program to Barangay Salapingao.
She believes that the installation of the program in Salapingao is one good opportunity which will eventually prepare students to the ICT world especially because Dagupan is now being eyed to become the new eco-zone for ICT-BPO in the north.
Last week, Philippine Economic Zone Authority consultants Emmanuel Lopez and retired Major General Romeo Poquiz visited Mayor Fernandez to inform her that Dagupan was chosen for the development of three economic zones namely IT-BPO, tourism and agro-industrial.
“It is heartening to hear that our city was chosen for this enormous development because of our good governance and business friendliness practices, wide road network along with the presence of telecommunication facilities in our city. This free Wi-Fi will certainly prepare our students to the complexities of the ICT world and help them find employment later on when these eco-zone programs operate in our city,” said Fernandez.
