Dagupan ready for Senior High program but…
IT’S all systems go for the Senior High School (SHS) program in Dagupan City but the construction of the required classrooms will not be completed in three months.
However, Ma. Linda Ventinilla, chief of the School Governance Operations Division of the city schools division office, told KBP forum here on Thursday, that contingency measures are in place for the lack of classrooms.
Meanwhile, she said the training of teachers for incoming Grade 11 students on specialization courses and common topics, is ongoing and will be completed before the start of classes on June 13.
The training of teachers for other grades, she said, was already completed.
A K-to-12 summit was held at CSI Stadia in Dagupan last week, attended by stakeholders, including some 3,000 incoming Grade 11 students and their parents, to address issues about the enrollment and its implementation.
Incoming Grade 11 students have been advised to apply for the voucher system if they want to enroll in private schools to entitle them to government subsidy but were still cautioned not to expect 100 percent subsidy.
BRIGADA ESKWELA
Meanwhile, the Division of City Schools in Dagupan City announced that it is set for this year’s national school maintenance week dubbed ‘Brigada Eskwela’ scheduled on May 30 – June 4.
The kickoff ceremony in the city will be held at the Judge Jose De Venecia Sr. Memorial National High School, one of the schools which will offer senior high school (SHS).
Brigada Eskwela is a nationwide activity that enjoins teachers, parents, and community members to volunteer to help prepare public schools for the use of students in time for the opening of classes on June 13.
Among the usual participants in the weeklong schools’ cleanup are school personnel and students; parents; local government units representatives; other volunteers from government agencies such as Philippine National Police (PNP), Department of Public Works and Highways, Department of Social Welfare and Development, and Department of Health; and even some private companies and non-government organizations.
Meanwhile, the division’s Oplan Balik Eskwela, to ensure that students are properly enrolled and able to attend school during the opening of classes, will start on May 28. (Leonardo Micua/Johanne Macob)
