City hall workers to get 14th month
WHEN it rains it pours for the Dagupan City government’s regular employees.
They are again looking forward to receiving their 14th month pay before the end of the year and a possible hike of from 40 to 45 percent of their basic pay once the new standardization law takes effect next year.
According to Mayor Belen T. Fernandez, the city government is ready to pay the employees a 14th-month bonus on top of the 13th month pay they already received in two equal trances, first in June and second in November.
Ms. Fernandez said it will be the third time for the city government to give city hall employees a 14th month bonus since 2013, an indication that the city is enjoying a healthy financial state notwithstanding overdrafts and deficits incurred by the past city administration.
She clarified, however, that the financial bonanza will be enjoyed only by employees in the regular plantilla, excluding emergency and contractual workers of the city government.
The mayor said the emergency and contractual workers’ hiring rates have already been increased from P8,000 to P10,000 per month.
On the expected new salary standardization, the mayor said the city will need from P30 to P40 million to implement it next year.
“We will take every opportunity to conserve and save our money so we can raise the amount to effect salary standardization,” she said. “If every office can switch their lights off for just 30 minutes, we can save a lot in costs of electricity,” the mayor pointed out.
Ms. Fernandez said she expects the city council to approve the proposed annual budget of P780 million for 2016 which is P77 million higher than the current city budget. (Leonardo Micua)
