Pregnant women compete in beauty contest

MALASIQUI—Twelve pregnant women in the town vied for the title “Pretty Preggy 2015” as part of the ‘Buntis Congress’ here last November 27.

Kathlyniel Mercurio from barangay Malimpec was crowned the Miss Pretty Preggy 2015 and was also awarded with ‘Best in Casual Wear’ and ‘Best in Gown’.

Sunshine Alcantara from Barangay Lokeb Este and Rodecelyn Calderon from Barangay Binalay were awarded second and first runner up respectively.

2- Pregnant women

Dr. Marlou De Guzman, municipal health officer, said the contestants were at least four months pregnant, ages 20 to 30 years old and are not in their first trimester of pregnancy.

Like other beauty contests, the contestants were rated in in modeling, talent and in Q-and-A portion.

A minor award of ‘Best in Talent’ was awarded to Princess Balawang.

Winners received cash prizes, Php5,000, Php4,000 and Php3,000 for first, second and third placers respectively and Php1,000 plus appliances as consolation prizes.

Some 500 pregnant women in the town participated in the ‘Buntis Congress’, a regular activity of the Provincial Health Office (PHO) alongside a medical and dental mission of the municipal government to celebrate the natal day of both Mayor Armando Domantay Sr. and his son Keri, president of the Association of Barangay Captains (ABC).

“The pregnant women were given free massage, foots spa and haircut and those who are considered high risk were given free ultrasound, X-ray and medications if necessary but everybody was given free check- up,” Mr. Domantay said. (Hilda Austria)
