Rehab of damaged schools starts
REHABILITATION work for school buildings damaged by Typhoon Emong on May 7 has started even as alternatives are being prepared to avoid delays in the scheduled June 1 opening of classes.
Pangasinan I Division Schools Superintendent Aurora Domingo said schools are considering three alternatives to ensure smooth opening of classes. These include double shifting -having morning and afternoon classes; temporarily use other nearby buildings as classrooms; or fuse sections to accommodate up to 60 students in one classroom.
Domingo said while her division is still awaiting the quick response fund from the national government, her office has been given permission to use the miscellaneous and other operating expenses (MOOE) fund and school-based spare funds to start the rehabilitation of damaged buildings and school properties.
“The DepEd engineering division has surveyed the extent of damages in the first district where 152 schools were damaged,” Domingo said in the KBP forum held at the Philippine Information Agency office last week.- PIA
