CALASIAO–Construction for a new three-storey municipal building, to replace the hall that was razed to the ground last year, will start in two weeks, Mayor Roy Macanlalay announced.

Macanlalay, speaking during the town fiesta celebration Sunday, said a P60-million loan from the Land Bank of the Philippines will be used to finance the building.

The old building was gutted in September 2008 and municipal officials and employees, including the mayor, have been holding office at the back of the building since.

Eight months after the blaze, probers have yet to establish the cause of the fire. The losses were then estimated at more than P70-million.

Construction of the new building is estimated to cost P100 million.

Macanlalay said the local government decided to secure a loan for the new building as the financial assistance pledged by several national officials have not arrived.

The mayor vehemently denied rumors that he was allegedly behind the fire, saying that “no one among any officials here, much more your mayor, can stomach to stage that evil action”.

Macanlalay called on the people to set politics aside and instead help in rebuilding their town.

“We will make history by building a new and modern municipal hall of Calasiao,” he said.#
