MANGALDAN—Despite the onslaught of the Porcine Reproductive Respiratory Syndrome (PRRS) in several towns of Pangasinan, the meats coming from the Double A slaughterhouse here is safe, says Mayor Herminio Romero.

The cities of Dagupan and Baguio and other municipalities source their pork and beef meats from the slaughterhouse here.

“We always see to it that the meat that leaves the slaughterhouse is safe because we do not want the meat consuming public to lose their confidence in us,” said Romero.

The mayor said animals being butchered at the local slaughterhouse undergo strict sanitary procedure as required by the municipal government and the National Meat and Inspection Commission (NMIC).

In addition, personnel of the Provincial Veterinary Office headed by Dr. Benedicto Perez regularly monitor the activities inside the town’s slaughterhouse.

Meanwhile, Perez has again confirmed that their findings indicate that the disease affecting several hog farms in the province is PRRS and not H1N1.—LM
