Dagupeños shine in Mayor’s Cup

JERIC Carabeo of the Bowling Association of Las Piñas edged out a Dagupeno to win the champion’s trophy and a cash prize of P60,000 in the recently concluded Mayor Alipio Fernandez Jr. Bowling Cup in Dagupan City.

Mike Sim of the Dagupan Association of Tenpin Bowling, Inc. posed a major challenge to Carabeo as the two, who battled in Group 1, tied in the early frames in their one-on-one tie-breaker.

Sim, who settled for P30,000 and the first runner-up trophy, managed to score spares in the last two frames while Carabeo scored an almost perfect game to nail down the championship.

Sim led four other players in giving the visitors run for their money in the tournament managed by the event chairman, Councilor Danilo Torio, in coordination with Allan Cua, manager of CSI Family Fun World.

The second-runner up prize was won by Dante Bagaybagayan of Mandaluyong City Tenpin Bowling Association while Egay Latag of Lipa City Tenpin Bowling Association bagged the 3rd runner-up prize.

DATBI players, Luis Buencamino, Clark Reyes, Nikko Go and Momoy Abesamis, placed seventh, eighth, ninth and 10th, respectively.

The tournament, participated in by 64 rated bowling players from, Dagupan, Manila, Baguio and Batangas, was sanctioned by the Philippine Bowling Congress.

Two women members of the RP national team placed 4th and 5th, namely: Apple Posadas of Pearl Bowlers Association of Paranaque-Bowlmart and Mades Arles of Tenpin Bowlers Association of Makati-Prima.

The Group II winners are Jerold Santos (TBAM-Prima Batang X), P30,000 and trophy; Kenneth Piedad (Manila Ten Pin Bowling Association), P20,000; Rosario Bagaybagayan (MCTBA), P15,000; Roy Co (DATBI) P7,000; Mona Lim (DATBI), P4,000; Tina Lim (DATBI) P3,000; Abe Dy (DATBI,) P2,000; Lala Tamayo (BALP-UPHS), P2,000; Adrian Saguinsin (TBAM-Prima), P1,000; and Rodel Landicho (LCTBA), P1,000.

Mayor Fernandez and Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez, chairman of the executive committee of the Bangus Fest, presented the trophies and cash prizes to the winners.

The bowling tournament was held at the 20-lane Family Fun World at the CSI the City Mall in Lucao. —LM
