Star-studded Pista’y Dayat bike race set

AFTER a break last year, the “Pista’y Dayat Cycling Classic” returns to the road on May 1 with 75 top guns in Philippine cycling expected to participate.

Paolo Calzo, the chief organizer of the event, said in addition to well-known pedal pushers from Pangasinan, famous riders from the provinces of Nueva Ecija, Tarlac, La Union, Bulacan and Nueva Vizcaya, as well as the capital Manila have already registered to join the event.

Among the homegrown riders participating are former Tour kings Arnel Quirimit ofPozorrubio and Santy Barnachea of Umingan, Tour runners-up Merculio Ramos Jr. of Binalonan and Baler Ravina of Asingan.

The competition will start in Dagupan. The road battle will finish at Lucap, Alaminos City, traversing the coastal towns of Binmaley, Lingayen, Labrador, Sual, Alaminos City, Mabini, Burgos, Dasol, Infanta, Agno, and Bani with an approximate distance of 175 kilometers.

Dagupan City Mayor Alipio Fernandez Jr. will flag off the cyclists while Alaminos Mayor Hernani Braganza and former Governor Oscar Orbos will award the prizes to the winners.

Sponsored by Creamsilk conditioner, Clusivol multivitamins, Cobra energy drink and Wings detergent soap, the champion stands to earn P20,000 top prize while the first and second runners-up will get P15,000 and P8,000, respectively.

Special mountain summit prizes located at Suasalito at Sual town are also at stake with 2nd engineering district head Rodolfo Dion bankrolling the prizes.
