LINGAYEN–The governor will not be seen and heard in campuses during graduation rites, not this year anyway.

Gov. Amado Espino Jr. has declined invitations to be the guest speaker during graduation ceremonies following the order of Education Secretary Jesli Lapus banning politicians from appearing in these school-end events.

Espino said he does not want to earn “the ire anew of Sec. Lapus” who recently felt slighted over a book program initiated by the province’s schools superintendents, supported and funded by the provincial government.

Espino said he has begged off from all invitations, including that of Bayambang National High School, his alma mater and where he has been president of its alumni association for more than 20 years.

“Nan kusa ak la pian aga napa uges lamet iraramay principals singa naipara ra ed saramay division superintendents,” Espino said in an interview with newsmen.

Lapus recently ordered the transfer of Dr. Alma Ruby Torio and Dr. Armando Aquino, schools division superintendents of Pangasinan 1 and 2, respectively, after the secretary reportedly took offense having been kept in the dark regarding the production of teachers’ guidebooks funded by the provincial government and distributed throughout the province.

The provincial board held an executive session last Monday and passed a resolution strongly seeking a reconsideration of Lapus’ order and suspension of the order reassigning Torio and Aquino to other provinces.

Espino said many school principals are also rallying behind the two education officials.

Espino said he’s prepared to support the affected superintendents in their dilemma, even if it would mean taking the matter to the legal courts. #
