Calesa drivers told: Clear streets of horse litter
ASINGAN—Clean up or pay up.
This is the directive recently handed out to drivers of horse-driven calesas and other forms of transport pulled by animals.
The municipal council recently approved the ordinance penalizing the calesa drivers if they fail to pick up wastes of their animals on the town’s streets.
Ordinance No. 2, series of 2009 prohibits “all drivers of animal-driven transportation from permitting or allowing their animals to dispose of waste matters on and along the streets within the jurisdiction of this municipality and providing penalties thereof”.
Violators of the ordinance will be fined P500 or one day imprisonment for the first offense, P1,000 or two days imprisonment for the second offense, and P1,500 or three days imprisonment for third offense.
Councilor Gem Salvador Sapigao, author of the ordinance, said the town’s national, provincial and municipal roads are now properly maintained by the local government and they need the cooperation of the people in keeping the streets clean. #
