A summer spectacle with social relevance

LINGAYEN–Pangasinan Pistay Dayat 2009 will be celebrated for a full week, April 25 to May 2, this host of activities aimed at creating further awareness for the need to preserve and protect the environment and to promote the province’s culture.

The Lingayen Beachfront, the venue for most of the activities, has already been cleared and cleaned in preparation for the week-long celebration.

A fluvial parade along the Agno River will signal the start of the celebration April 25.

The Pangasinan Tourism and Trade Expo will also open on the same day featuring the best product of every municipality and city in the province.

Expected to thrill visitors on day one “Banda Parada”, the Drum & Lyre/Drum and Bugle exhibition that will march from the Capitol Plaza to Lingayen Beachfront.

Music will continue to take center stage in the evening with “Konsyerto sa Gulpo,” a concert featuring the original composition of local bands advocating environmental awareness. The province’s six districts will compete in the concert.

Children will have a chance to fly kites and build sand castles at the “Gantilan na Ugugaw ed Dayat” on April 26 andwill be treated to a show of the multi-awarded Calasiao Children’s Choir.

The Wanders International Circus will perform on April 29.

“Sangkabalegan ya Suwayan tan Sayawan”, or the Grand Orchestra and Ballroom Dancing Showdown, will have its comeback with a bigger number of participants on April 27.

The loveliest ladies of Pangasinan will vie for the coveted title of Limgas na Pangasinan 2009 Talent competition on April 28.

Winners in the yearlong search for “Cleanest River and Coastal Municipality/City” will be presented during the awarding ceremony on May 1 at the Lingayen Beachfront. The search is a project of Gov. Amado Espino, Jr. aimed at protecting the coastal and rivers in Pangasinan.

The other events lined up are: “Pagalaw na Luyag”, GATE Chess Competition, Elimination Round and Beach Volleyball (Men & Women) on April 27; “Labi na Ligliwa” on April 28; “Doypuay Kalangweran” on April 29; Open Family Beach Camp on April 30; Thanksgiving Mass on May 1, Lingayen Beach Woodstock and Governor’s Cup Shootfest on May 3.
