Braganza’s political plan remains secret

Will he or won’t he?

The question begged for an answer but Alaminos City Mayor Hernani Braganza won’t say and is keeping his political cards close to his chest.

“Let’s work first, there’s time for politics,” said Braganza, now on his second term as mayor, is strongly rumored to be eyeing the governorship in next year’s elections.

Asked about his plans, Braganza’s simply replied “it’s still far from our radar in Alaminos” during the Kapihan sa Lenox of the Pangasinan Press and Radio Club last Wednesday.

He admitted, however, that he has had discussions with 6th District Rep. Estrella III, now on his final term, on the possibility of running for governor next year to contest the reelection of incumbent Governor Amado Espino Jr.

Beside Braganza, no other potential candidates for the province’s top post, have so far surfaced in the political circles.

Braganza, former press and agrarian reform secretary during the term of President Corazon Aquino, said he has high respects for the governor whom he has known and worked with during the time of former President Fidel Ramos, the mayor’s uncle.

“He was given all the emergency tasks needed to finish on time and he had done well and I think he is doing well in many aspects,” Braganza said of Espino’s performance as a first time governor.

“I agree with a lot of things he is doing but sad to say, I also disagree with some things but these are not serious enough to blunt the vision of the governor,” said Braganza who came at odds with Espino last year over the governor’s distribution of shotguns to all barangay chairmen in the province without consulting the mayors.#
