PANGASINENSES will have the opportunity to take front row seats to witness world class track competition when Philippine Amateur Track and Field Association (PATAFA) holds its Philippine Invitational Open on May 11 to 13.

Pangasinan and Dagupan City will jointly host the track and field invitational open organized by the PATAFA to be participated in by at least 11 countries, including the Philippines.

The participating countries are Malaysia, Brunei, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Burma, Hong Kong and Japan. Russia has also expressed intent to participate in the three-day meet.

Dagupan Mayor Alipio Fernandez Jr., in his capacity as PATAFA national chairman, said GovernorAmado Espino Jr. had agreed to commit the province as co-host of the three-day meet with the city.

The meet will be held at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center (NRSCC) in Lingayen, owned and managed by the provincial government, which has a tartan oval, the second of its kind in Northern Luzon.

The venue has been used for national games of the Special Olympic Philippines (SOP) as well as the track and field and lawn tennis events of the Ilocos Region Athletic Association (IRAA) Meet hosted by Dagupan City.

The NRSCC was recently renovated after some of its facilities were destroyed by powerful typhoon Cosme in May last year. The Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office provided the fund.

PATAFA maintains that the meet gives the country’s top athletes to gain international exposure.—LM
