LINGAYEN–Gov. Amado Espino Jr. envisions a “Golden Age” for Pangasinan.

This was underscored in his 2009 State of the Province Address delivered last Monday, highlighting the accomplishments of his administration last year.

The governor cited the projects and programs that have been laid out in pursuit of making Pangasinan the “best place to invest, work, live and raise a family”.

These include the rehabilitation of government-owned hospitals and the distribution of PhilHealth cards to indigent families.

“I am grateful that our province mates, and our local leaders, have learned to appreciate, and are happy to see the fruits of our work,” Espino said before some 7,000 guests at the Capitol plaza.

Pangasinan is now top PhilHealth card provider in the Ilocos Region and one of the largest in the country, having enrolled a total of 129,149 families.

Espino also noted that the 12-station dialysis center in San Carlos City will soon start operation, which will further boost the provincial government’s health care program recognized by the European Commission (EU) as “a rare feat in the Philippines”.

Plans are underway for the establishment of the Botikang Panlalawigan to ensure the steady supply of cheaper but quality generic medicines.

In education, the province became the first in the country to produce uniform teacher guidebooks both for public elementary and high school levels province-wide.

Agricultural, fisheries and veterinary facilities have also been renovated and the provincial government invested P150 million in fertilizer subsidy in a bid to increase farm production.

Tourism development has also been given priority with the purchase of new shuttle buses designed to transport local and foreign tourists to destination of their choice across the province.

Other major projects listed in Espino’s report include upgrade of the Lingayen airport and the conversion of some 300 hectares of foreshore land into an eco-tourism zone.

Espino vowed to be “firm and decisive in doing what it takes to provide you all with a provincial government that works, and a provincial government that cares.”#
