BCC boosts college studies in San Carlos
SAN CARLOS CITY—The Binalatongan Community College (BCC), founded by a local philanthropist in 2004, is now proving to be a valuable institution for the education sector in San Carlos City.
The BCC was established by Marcelo Casillan, an engineer, and later turned over to the city government.
The BCC was allotted a P1.5 million budget this year by the city government, according to Councilor and Majority Floor Leader Elpidio Fermin.
Students of the BCC, who pay only P1,500 per semester, are effectively government scholars since their school fees are largely subsidized by the city government.
From an initial enrolment of 10 students when the school opened in 2004, the population is now stands at 100 for courses in B.S. Education and B.S. Information Technology.
The BCC uses three classrooms at the Dona Eva Macapagal Elementary School. Classes start at 6:00 p.m. on weekdays, when the elementary students have already vacated the school.
The college gained support from Makati City per a memorandum of agreement signed by Mayor Julier Resuello and Makati Mayor Jejomar Binay last December 11.
Adonis Bautista, BCC’s vice president, said Ramir de la Cruz, a deacon of Iglesia ni Kristo, has also been helping students avail of scholarships from BCC.–LM
