Prosecutors begin hearing case vs. mayor’s assassins
LINGAYEN–The preliminary hearing for the murder of Agno mayor Arthur Cabantac last year starts on Monday at the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office with at least eight witnesses set to testify against the three arrested suspects.
Superintendent David Rapisora Jr, deputy police provincial director and head of Task Force Cabantac, said the testimonies of the witnesses summoned by the court will be crucial for determining whether there is probable cause to pursue the case.
Rapisora declined to give information on the possible motive for the killing.
The suspects are believed to be members of gun-for-hire syndicate from Nueva Ecija.
The lawyer of the accused has requested the provincial prosecutor in the regional trial court in Alaminos City where the case was filed to inhibit himself from the case.
Cabantac was gunned down August 2 while he was playing mahjong in a neighbor’s house in Poblacion, Agno. #
