SAN CARLOS CITY—Mayor Julier Resuello has reported receiving death threats following a major breakthrough in the investigation of the still unresolved killing of his father, former Mayor Julian Resuello.

Resuello said a witness has recently come forward with information relating to the plot to kill his father who was gunned down in April 2007 during the town fiesta.

The witness, who is now under the custody of a “trusted person” allegedly confessed to knowing details about how much were paid and where the transaction was made for the contract killing.

Resuello suspects the death threats, sent via mobile phone text messages, warned him as the next target, and believes that these came from those who plotted the elder Resuello’s murder.

“The ones whom we have suspected as the masterminds are the same people allegedly behind my father’s killing based on the star witness’ accounts,” he said.

Resuello said he is not taking the threats lightly and is taking all necessary precautions.

Tayo po ay nababahala at ayaw din naman po natin na mangyari sa atin yong nangyari sa ating late mayor kaya tayo po ay nagdo dobleng ingat,” he said.

At the same time, the mayor said their family is thankful that the case is finally seeing major development after President Gloria Arroyo personally instructed Chief Superintendent Luizo Ticman, the police regional director, to follow up the case.

Meanwhile, he said the extension for the subpoena requested for those implicated, whom Resuello declined to identify at this time, has lapsed on Tuesday.

The case will be transferred to the regional prosecutor’s office after the charged suspects filed a motion to inhibit the prosecutor handling the Resuello killing for allegedly receiving money from the city government.

Resuello said the allowance given to the city prosecutors is legal and is part of the regular honorarium provided by the city.

“They are just doing this as a delaying tactic,” Resuello said.#
