Dagupan and San Fabian baywalk construction in full swing

THE construction of two baywalk projects, one in Tondaligan Park in Dagupan City and the other in Barangay Bolasi, San Fabian town is now in full swing to boost tourism in these areas.

Fourth District Rep. Christopher de Venecia, under whose initiative the P150-million fund for the first phase was approved, did a site inspection with engineers of the 2nd Pangasinan Engineering District led by District Engr. Edita Manuel on July 11 in Tondaligan Park and on July 12 in Barangay Bolasi.

“The design is good, it’s going to be multi-purpose so it’s both for pedestrians and bicycles and there are planters in between and the scape of the baywalk is beautiful,” De Venecia said.

He added, “We are expecting it to be one of the crown jewels of our tourism here in Dagupan.”

He said tourism will be boosted further soon as the swimming area has been identified with organized sheds by the beach and an area has cleared for a court for beach volleyball court.

He said Public Works Secretary Mark Villar will be invited for the inauguration of the project because it was he who approved the project.  “This is something truly to be proud of for all Dagupeños,” he said.

He said he is expecting automatic appropriations for the next phases until the baywalk project is fully completed.

He said there will be park benches, ramps for access for PWDs and jetskis.

Phase 1 is for biking and pedestrian and the next phases will include added features and attractions, he added.

The San Fabian baywalk project will extend to Barangay Nibaliw but only in certain sections because he said he wants to maintain San Fabian as a coastal town.

He said the project was granted through the DPWH-Department of Tourism convergence.

Meanwhile, Manuel assured De Venecia that the projects would be completed in November or at least before the end of December barring any weather disturbances.

The baywalk is 5.4 meters wide for pedestrians and bikers’ lane is 2.5 meters plus planters in between so it’s 13 meters wide, she said.

The one-kilometer long boardwalk in Dagupan and San Fabian costs each P75-million for the first phase. The second phase costs P50-million to be done in 2019, she added.

Meanwhile, DPWH has secured permits for earth-balling of trees affected by the project, including pruning. DPWH will plant 100 seedlings for every tree cut. (Eva Visperas)
