Malasiqui cops use “flower power” on Valentine’s Day

MALASIQUI–Policemen here knocked on the doors of some residents, not for the dreaded Oplan Tokhang anti-drug campaign, but to give red roses to the ladies on Valentine’s Day to spread love.

P/Chief Inspector Dennis Balitoc, deputy police chief, said it was P/Superintendent Cirilo Acosta Jr., chief of police, who initiated the project to help residents become more comfortable in the presence of policemen.

An elderly woman receives a red rose from a Malasiqui policeman on Valentine’s Day.

The three police community precincts were supplied with red roses for distribution by the policemen in their respective jurisdictions.

“They went to homes of ladies who no longer have anyone to give them flowers like the elderly, widows or wives whose husbands are working overseas, etc.  or those who are simply loveless.,” Balitoc said.

He said their policemen explained to the recipients that they want to be “close to their hearts.”

“Not all who knock on their doors do it for Oplan Tokhang,” he added.

The reaction of the recipients to the “flower power” was very positive, he said. (Eva Visperas)
