THIRTY-three elementary students and 40 high school students competed in the ‘Padunungan 2017’, an academic and literary contest that showcases the talents of Pangasinan students, organized by the University of the Philippines Subol Society (UPSS), the premier organization of students in UP.

The various contest categories focused on the theme “Dynamics: Highlighting Competence in the Midst of Social Change.”

Mary Angeline Cabal, UPSS president for Diliman Campus, said the annual activity that started in 1977, aims to give back to their home province by showcasing the greatness of Pangasinan to elementary and high school students.

“We wish to imbibe in the students and the youth the love for the Pangasinan language and culture through various avenues,” Cabal told the Philippine information Agency.

Elementary and high school students from various schools in Pangasinan competed in poem recital, poem writing, poster making, folk dance, essay writing, singing and quiz show contests in Pangasinan.

High school students also competed in a mixed campus scheme for the quiz show.

UPSS, which also has a President from the UP Baguio campus, undertakes environmental protection activities like tree planting in various municipalities. (VHS/PIA-Pangasinan)
