17 LGUs vie for Aktibo ed Turismo Awards

CAPITOL NEWS

Seventeen (17) local government units are vying for this year’s Aktibo ed Turismo Awards, a pet project of Gov. Amado T. Espino, Jr. that aims to give special recognition to Pangasinan’s partners who gave significant contributions to the development and promotion of tourism in the province to include its support to cultural and special events.

Provincial Tourism and Cultural Affairs Officer Ma. Luisa A. Elduayan earlier said that the awarding of recognitions will be based on a scorecard prepared by the Special Awards and Evaluation Committee that was tasked to evaluate the tourism movers according to six criteria.

The search, which kicked off as early as September, also seeks to inspire LGUs to further strengthen their tourism, cultural and arts project.

The rustic town of Agno boosts of its famous Umbrella Rocks. LGU Agno is among the entries vying for Aktibo Ed Turismo Awards.

The list of entries for this year includes Agno, Alaminos City, Anda, Balungao, Bayambang, Bautista, Binmaley, Bolinao, Burgos, Calasiao, Dasol, Infanta, Mangaldan, Natividad, San Fabian, Sta. Maria, and Tayug. LGU Alaminos bagged the championship last year.

It can be recalled that the province has been celebrating Pangasinan Tourism Month every September since 2009 in support of the United Nations World Tourism Organization’s (UNWTO) call to create a global platform that will underscore tourism’s potential and real contribution to advance social and economic progress.

Since then, the Espino administration endeavored to launch innovative strategies through intensified programs and projects that are focused on strengthening tourism, culture, and arts potential of Pangasinan.

The six criteria for the search are as follows: 1) organizational support; 2) LGU-initiated/funded programs, projects, activities; 3) cooperation and support to the provincial government programs and special events; 4) legislative support; 5) linkaging with government and non-government partners; 6) various tourism-related awards and recognitions received.

Elduayan disclosed that all entries will be evaluated according to the criteria and will be ranked as champion, 1st runner-up, and 2nd runner-up. Four finalists will also be chosen along with three special awards.

Prizes for winners include cash prize of P200,000 for the Champion, P150,000 for the second prize and P100,000 will go to the 3rd placer. Cash prize of P50,000 each will be awarded to the four finalists while three special awards of P30,000 will also be given.

All participating LGUs will each receive P10,000 consolation prize.
