Let the show begin

NOW that Senators Grace Poe and Chiz Escudero have opened the political dam’s spillway gates, declaring themselves as the presidential tandem to reckon with in the 2016 elections, we can expect to see more of the same rah-rah-rah from boisterous supporters of Vice President Jejomar Binay, former DILG Sec Mar Roxas and yes, Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, with their “guess who” Veep wannabes.

The public will be regaled and fed with usually the same promises made some 50 years ago by those that aspired for the same positions but repackaged today with more electric sound bites to mesmerize the electorate. Helping the poor is made to appear like it’s a novelty each election, fighting corruption is made to sound like a new ultimate no-holds-barred fight between the goodies and the baddies.

This will be followed shortly by wild and “from-the horse’s-mouth” speculations about who’s who in the senatorial race.

Bu through it all, the sound and fury of 2016 national election is still a welcome respite from the series of natural calamities and human tragedies that hit home real hard in the past two years. Our people need entertainment.

So let the clowns and jesters take their places among the dedicated and committed citizens for good governance for the 2016 “fun-run,” and let the show begin.  

 

PNoy ‘s humiliation

IF only for the record, Grace Poe has completed the humiliation of President Aquino.  Up to the last minute, PNoy was hoping Poe would be Mar Roxas’ running mate in the 2016 polls.  But with Poe finally announcing her bid for the Palace in May, PNoy suffered the ultimate slap. For, principally, it was PNoy who transformed Poe from American to Filipino again when he, on Oct. 21, 2010, administered Poe’s oath taking as chair of the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board.  (Just the day before, on Oct. 20, Poe executed an affidavit to renounce her allegiance to the US and forfeit her American citizenship).

It is no secret that PNoy even requested Poe to accompany Roxas in provincial sorties.  But each time, Poe would turn PNoy down; at one point, Poe even told PNoy she could only join Roxas if Chiz Escudero would be allowed to tag along.  That didn’t materialize.

You talk of debt of gratitude, this Poe would have none of that.
