LINGAYEN–The Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPPO) will conduct random drug testing among all policemen in the province to find out if there are any more lawmen using illegal drugs.

Superintendent Ferdinand de Asis, PPPO information officer, said the random testing of policemen was ordered by P/Sr. Superintendent Rollie Saltat, PPPO officer-in-charge.

The order was issued after a member of the Provincial Public Safety Company (PPSC) based in Tayug was arrested on August 2 at about 4:00 p.m., at the parking area of the Common Terminal at MH Del Pilar St., Herrero-Perez, Dagupan City, while allegedly sniffing shabu inside his parked car.

The suspect was identified as PO1 Joel Esberto Nery, 34, a resident of Barangay Boboy in Agno.

CARTOONnews-150809Intelligence operatives of the City Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group (CAIDSOTG) led by P/Inspector Joel Cabaddu in coordination with P/Sr. Inspector Rizaldy Tomagos, arrested Nery.

Also confiscated from the possession and custody of the suspect were two pieces of heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets containing suspected shabu and drug paraphernalias.

A case for violation of Republic Act 9165 was already filed against the suspect.

De Asis said the policemen found using illegal drugs will be charged administratively and could face stiff sanction, including separation from the service.

Also being investigated along with Nery is his immediate superior, who was not identified by PPPO because of reports that Nery already was found positive of illegal drugs use the first time he was subjected to drug testing.

De Asis said PPPO will not tolerate the illegal activities of Nery and to demonstrate its determination to eradicate illegal drugs trade in the province, the random drug testing among all its personnel will be conducted regularly.

Nery had long been placed under surveillance till his arrest in Dagupan City. (Leonardo Micua)
