THE Dagupan City Police Station (DCPS) vowed to immediately solve the two shooting incidents recorded last August 2 even as P/Supt. Christopher Abrahano, DCPS chief, assured the city that there is nothing to be alarmed about because the incidents were isolated cases.

He said the incidents happened in barangays Bonuan Binloc and Malued here and several crime prevention programs are currently in place to maintain peace and order.

In Bonuan Binloc, two unidentified male bodies were found dead with gunshot wounds near the Muslim village, and a search police found sachets of suspected shabu in their possession.

Abrahano said one of the victims was identified to have been involved in some robbery hold- up and drug trafficking activities in the city.

Meanwhile, on the same night, two Indian-Filipino businessmen in the city were shot dead inside their canteen in Barangay Malued here.

Abrahano identified the victims as Sanjey Khatri, 30 years old and Raj Khatri, 35, incumbent Dagupan Jaycees president.

Based from the initial investigation of DCPS, two still unidentified suspects entered the sibling’s canteen while the two were there and immediately fired at Sanjey who died on the spot while Raj fought with the suspects but was also shot.

Raj was rushed to the hospital but also died afterwards.

Members of the Philippine Jaycees led by their national President Brian Lim condemned the incident and asked the police to bring the perpetrators before the bar of justice.

“Based on the investigation, we think Sanjey was the main target of the suspects and Raj was just included since he was there and fought off the suspects”, said Abrahano.

He said robbery was ruled out as a motive to the crime since no belongings of the victims were missing.

“We are looking at several angles including the occupation of the victims as businessmen,” said Abrahano.

Meanwhile, Mayor Belen Fernandez directed the DCPS to investigate, identify and arrest the suspects to give justice to the victims at the soonest possible time.

I.M.P.A.C.T (Intensified Mobile Patrolling to Arrest/Abate Crime Trends) was recently launched to address crime hot spots and compliment PNP Lambat Sibat in the city, said Abrahano.

He added, since its implementation in January this year, robbery incidents decreased by almost 50 %, from 105 incidents January to June last year to 65 incidents on the same period this year.

“These activities are coupled with the Dagupan City LGUs crime prevention programs like the recent installation of CCTVs and operation of Anti Drug Text Line”. (Hilda Austria)
