PENRO resumes planting trees

LINGAYEN-Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) took advantage of the current monsoon rains to kick off this year’s tree planting under the National Greening Program (NGP) this year.

Leduina Co, PENRO officer, said he months of July and August are the most feasible times of the year for planting trees to ensure higher survival rate for those trees.

Co said since 2011, they have already planted on 17,000 hectares of land under the NGP. This year they will plant on 143 hectares of land.

The existing tree plantations are located in the mountains of Infanta, Mabini, Dasol, Bolinao, Sual, Mangatarem, Bugallon, Aguilar, Natividad, Umingan and San Nicoias while the tree seedlings of forest trees, cacao, coffee and fuel wood such as kakawate, aure, and ipil-ipil are being produced by their partner People’s Organizations.
