LINGAYEN— What is it about schools that prompted a series of burglary in 23 schools this year alone?

The cases of robberies victimizing public schools so alarmed the province’s police director that he directed the police chiefs in the province to solve the cases.

P/Sr. Supt. Reynaldo Biay, officer-in-charge at the Pangasinan Provincial Police Office said he had to give specific instructions to the police chiefs in the Alaminos City, Mangaldan, Aguilar, Bugallon, Agno, Malasiqui, Bayambang, Labrador, Mabini, Sta. Maria, Mapandan, Rosales, San Carlos City, Pozorrubio, Binalonan, Sual and Manaoag to identify and arrest the suspects that burglarized the schools in their jurisdiction.

He ordered the police chiefs to intensify the conduct of police operations and provide counter measures to pre-empt/deter the occurrence of more burglaries.

He cited the importance of coordinating with school principals and recommend putting up steel bars or steel doors to protect the equipment or install closed circuit television cameras including hiring/deploying security guards.

The Inerangan Elementary School in Alaminos City and Paitan Integrated School in Sual town were the latest victims.

The suspects cut the steel window grills of the computer room of Inerangan Elementary School and carted away seven computer monitors, one central processing unit server, one projector and two small speakers.

The Paitan Integrated School lost six units of 18.5-inch Acer LCD computer monitor, two keyboards, and two Panasonic radio/cd players.

While the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office said it has identified suspected groups behind the series of robberies, continued surveillance will still continue. (Tita Roces)
