Dagupan, top 3 national finalist

DAGUPAN CITY was adjudged among the top 3 national finalists for the 2014 Presidential Award for Most Child-Friendly Cities under the independent component city category.

Other contenders were Santiago City and Cotabato City.

Santiago City won the award.

Mayor Belen Fernandez received the award from Social Welfare and Development Secretary Corazon ‘Dinky’ Soliman, Justice Secretary Leila de Lima, Interior and Local Government Undersecretary Austere Panadero and Health Undersecretary Vicentre Belizario Jr.

Ms. Fernandez was accompanied by Department of Interior and Local Government City Director Roderick Dawis, Chief of Police Christopher Abrahano City Schools, Progam Supervisor Diosdado Cayabyab in a ceremony at the Philippine International Convention Center on May 8.

Mayor Fernandez said that the award automatically means Dagupan is already considered a “Home of the happiest children in the Philippines.”

The mayor acknowledged the Children’s Code authored by City Administrator Farah Decano when she was still a city councilor of Dagupan as one of the crucial factors in rating Dagupan highly as finalist for the national award.

The mayor said she will continue all the programs and projects of the city for children particularly the holding of the yearly Children Congress and do more for their welfare and well-being. (Leonardo Micua)
