FOR RESIDENTS’ SECURITY

MANGALDAN- This town is leading the way in the use of closed circuit television (CCTV) in safeguarding the security of its residents.

It is the first town to install initially 24 CCTV cameras in the town plaza and in the town’s main commercial area, Rizal Avenue.

P/Supt. Jackie Candelario, Mangaldan police chief, said the operation of CCTV system will be fully functional during the Pindang Festival 2015 this month.

The system was bought with funds raised during last year’s festival.

Candelaria said the CCTV system will not only help deter crimes but will greatly assist the police in maintaining peace and order in the town.

The operation will initially be handled by trained policemen until the local government has completed its recruitment and training of staff for the system’s daily operation.

“With our CCTV cameras in place, we hope to be effective in crime solution and prevention and it will be tested during the Pindang Festival”, said Candelario.

In addition to its use for crime prevention, it will also be useful in the implementation of the police station’s ‘Oplan Santino,’ the campaign to minimize juvenile delinquency in the town.

The cameras, the police chief said, will detect activities of minors who are not in school during school days or spend their time at the town plaza or internet cafes.

He said the local government will purchase more cameras from the proceeds of this year’s Pindang Festival. (Hilda Austria/PNA)
