LINGAYEN—How does one deepen one’s love for his or her province? Only by imbibing behavioral change and basic moral values!

This was what the “I Love Pangasinan” Movement pointed out during its launching last week in the presence of young and old volunteers who participated in the multi-sectoral project organized by Dr. Perla Legaspi, the convener of the event and the head of the I Love Pangasinan Foundation, Inc.

“As Pangasinenses, we profess that we love and care for our province. But how do we profess this love and caring spirit for Pangasinan,” asked Legaspi, a Calasiao native and a former vice chancellor and professor at the University of the Philippines Diliman.

She proceeded to define the strategic direction to effectively nurture the love and care for the province.

She said it is important that each Pangasinense must consciously promotes a healthy body, healthy pocket, healthy environment, healthy government, and healthy heart and mind.

Toward this end, Gov. Amado T. Espino, Jr., called on the various sectors to unite and put into action “collective efforts” for the success of the project.

He expressed optimisn that through the movement, the people, young and old alike, will be able to instill further in their consciousness the true value of being a Pangasinense.

Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Socrates Villegas, who officiated the mass before the launch, called on Pangasinenses in his homily to work hand-in-hand to promote more programs that will benefit the Pangasinense youth, the poor, and those who lose sight of their identity.

The church leader said the province should get rid of people who are “walang pakialam, walang pakiramdam, and walang hiya.”

Legaspi added: “The strategic direction of the province cannot be achieved without a community of strong, loving, and caring family… it is the family who produces virtuous members of the society and community,” she said.

“We desire every Pangasinense to value his or her family. A strong and united family makes up a strong and united province of Pangasinan,” she concluded.

Five key speakers namely Dr. Lilibet Fermin (healthy body), Luz Muego (healthy pocket), Benita Pizzaro (healthy environment), Judge Ulysses Butuyan (health government), and Rev. Fr. Mario Sanchez (healthy heart and mind) presented on the key aspects of the ILPM strategic direction.

The volunteers signed a pledge committing themselves to value their families, strengthen faith in God, and nurture love for the province as the governor echoed the archbishop’s call for “pakiramdam at pakialam” in their respective communities.
