Good housekeeping, key to fire prevention
THE series of house fire in the past pointed to bad housekeeping practice as the culprit.
This in sum was the how the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) described the various causes of fire that engulfed hundreds of houses and claimed lives of children and elderly.
Senior Fire Officer II Jesus Asto of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) –Dagupan, pointed this out during an interview during the ‘Pantongtongan Tayo’ radio program of PIA-Pangasinan in line with the observance of Fire Prevention Month.
He said while the hot weather during summer season contributes to the problem, bad housekeeping practices like failing to dispose of flammable materials properly and to keep matches out of children’s reach.
“Majority of fire incidence happen at residential houses,” said Asto and advised households 1) to have their damaged electrical wirings and electrical fixtures repaired or replaced by a licensed electrician, 2) to unplug any unused appliances, 3) and to avoid overloading electric outlets, 4) and to close liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) tanks that before going to bed or leaving their houses.
