LENTEN SEASON

THE Lenten Season is a time for a change of heart, to say no to indifference, to make sacrifices.

This was stressed by Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Socrates Villegas during a Holy Mass at the Metropolitan Cathedral of St. John The Evangelist to mark the Ash Wednesday that signals the start of the Lenten Season.

“We have to learn to say no, we have to learn to reject, we have to learn to deny ourselves,” he reminded the parishioners.

He said people can reject many things during this season that can be considered as acts of fasting like food, destroying other people or laziness.

He reminded the laity of the pastoral visit of Pope Francis in the country last month when Filipinos were taught that something worth rejecting especially in this season which is the attitude of indifference.

“The opposite of indifference is compassion. That means – I think about other people. I prioritize other people than myself,” he said.

Those who reject it will have as reward the love of God, he added. (Tita Roces)
