LINGAYEN- This capital town’s economy is expected to improve further once the new wet market and slaughterhouse funded by an P11million loan from the Land Bank of the Philippines are occupied and operational before the end of the year.

According to municipal administrator Lydia Pioquinto, the construction of both the new wet market and slaughterhouse are already completed and turned over by the contractor early this month and are only awaiting completion of some requirements.

The installation of the tiles for the 104 fish stalls and 109 meat stalls has not been completed while the abattoir is still awaiting its accreditation as “class A” slaughterhouse from the National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS) for it to begin round-the-clock operations.

Once the wet market is opened for business, ambulant vendors will no longer be allowed in the premises and instead relocated to another area in order to preserve order and cleanliness in the market.

A task force was already organized to implement established rules on order in the market with the authority to confiscate goods of the erring ambulant vendors.

Pioquinto said the refrigerated van is already being repaired and assigned personnel are already undergoing training in Urdaneta City as required by NMIS.
