THE Department of Science and Technology in Region 1, through its Technology Assistance and Consultancy Services (TACS) program, conducted a training to help entrepreneurs take advantage of energy-saving measures.

The three-day seminar on Conducting Energy Audit held in Calasiao was participated in by representatives of the Pangasinan State University (PSU) and DOST-Pangasinan, who will serve as the province’s “energy auditors”.

The training course was conducted by the members of the Region 1 Energy Audit Team, a team of experts from DOST, academe, and partner agencies providing technical consultancy service.

One of the speakers, Dr. Edmund Edison Esteban of the Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) in Ilocos Norte, underscored the growing energy-saving opportunities for micro, small and medium-scale enterprises (MSMEs).

“By simply replacing old incandescent bulbs with more efficient lamps like T5, T8 and CFLs, significant savings will be realized” said Esteban.

The participants conducted an actual audit of Precy Valdez Rice Mill in Malasiqui and Rodger’s Furniture in San Quintin.

A report on the analysis and evaluation of data gathered was presented to the owners of the companies by the end of the seminar with the recommendation to comply with the energy-saving measures.

DOST Regional Director Elsa Chan said a series of energy audits will be organized for MSMEs starting May 2013.
