LINGAYEN—The province will celebrate the 433rd Pangasinan Day on April 5 with various events showcasing the province’s arts and culture.

Provincial Chief Tourism Officer Malu Elduayan said the “Agew na Pangasinan” will be a full day of activities starting with a Mass at 7 a.m. followed by a commemorative program with Alma Quintans-Kern, an Asna Awardee for International Community Leadership in 2011 and a granddaughter of former Governor Daniel Maramba, as the guest of honor and speaker.

The commemorative program will be highlighted by the turnover of the research study and book project of the Pangasinan Historical and Cultural Commission to the provincial government and the awarding ceremonies for Kurit Panlunggaring and Balitok A Tawir.

Kurit Panlunggaring is the province’s Literary Awards promoting the use of the local language, Pangasinan, while the Balitok A Tawir is the Culture and Arts Festival.

The program will recognize individuals who excelled in poetry, short story, and essay writings competitions and the local government units that topped in the Kansiyonan (chorale competition), Sayawan (creative dance competition), and Sarsuela (zarzuela competition).

The town of Bautista was the overall champion in the Balitok A Tawir held last December.

In addition, floats set up by different towns featuring the culture of the province will be paraded around the capital town Lingayen and street dancing exhibitions for the Parada na Dayew.

The celebration will be capped by the Asna Awards in the evening where outstanding Pangasinenses in government service, community service, arts and culture, medicine, agriculture and aquaculture, mass communications, business and entrepreneurship, law, education, science and technology and sports will be honored.

Elduayan said past and present Asna awardees will grace the event.–Johanne R. Macob
