5,000 young athletes join Milo Olympics

LINGAYEN–The Milo Little Olympics Luzon Regional Competition kicked off September 11 at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center (NRSCC) here with some 5,000 young athletes from Regions I, II and III and the Cordillera Autonomous Region (CAR) participating.

The 12th Milo Little Olympics, held from September 11 to 13, is considered as the country’s biggest and most successful inter-school competition for elementary and high school students.

Among the 12-featured sports include athletics, badminton, chess, football, gymnastics, lawn tennis, scrabble, sepak takraw, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo and volleyball.

Governor Amado Espino Jr., who was represented by Provincial Administrator Rafael M. Baraan during the opening program, officially welcomed the delegates.

“More than playing the game and winning, sportsmanship   must be valued by every young athlete who wants to strive for excellence,” Baraan said in his message.

Meanwhile, Tess Bernardino, MILO sports organizer, said the “competition is not only about winning medals but developing sports discipline that teach children sports excellence and    character-forming values.”

Children aged 12 years old and below vied in the elementary level, while those 13-17 competed in the high school level.

Aside from the various sports events, there is a media photo contest on the event was held. —PIO
